hep signs UN-supported Principles for Responsible Investments

HEP Kapitalverwaltung AG (hereinafter 'hep') proudly announces the signature of the UN supported Principles of Responsible Investment (UN PRI) and commits to completing the PRI Reporting Framework on an annual basis, starting in 2021.

A Sustainable and Transparent Investment Market

hep – a German-based solar energy fund and global solar energy company – signed the UN PRI, a set of six principles intended to incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues into investment decision-making practices.

By signing the UN PRI, hep officially becomes part of a worldwide community of peer investors and investment managers acting on ESG issues, who believe it to be in the best long-term interest of their beneficiaries to align their interests with broader objectives of society.

As an investment manager, hep has always emphasized the interests of its investors. In its fiduciary role, hep believes that ESG issues affect the performance of investment portfolios and that it is beneficial to investors to align their interests with ESG objectives. The implementation of the six principles as well as the continuous evaluation of their effectiveness is regularly documented.

“The PRI network is a great opportunity for hep to contribute to making the global investment market more sustainable. We are excited to actively engage with other experts of the global investment market on environmental, social, and corporate governance issues”, says Thorsten Eitle, CSO.

PRI CEO Fiona Reynolds states: “In joining the PRI, hep is recognizing the importance of incor-porating ESG factors into the investment strategies of its solar energy funds and global solar energy company. We’re very pleased to welcome hep as a signatory, and look forward to working with the team.”

Sustainable Investments and Long-Term Perspectives

Since 2008, hep has been gaining extensive market experience and wide-ranging expertise in drawing up and managing real assets. Hereby, transparency is essential at every step. Having successfully tapped into new markets and designed corresponding investments, the company continually draws on this knowledge for the benefit of its investors.

When entering new markets, hep combines German-based expertise with local knowledge and networking. During development, engineering and operation, hep emphasizes diligence and high-quality implementation, which made the company the first foreign company to receive a solar power plant construction license in Japan – and successfully launch nine projects so far.

To date, hep has developed 40 solar projects worldwide with the backing of German investors. hep’s project pipeline comprises four gigawatts of solar projects in Asia, Europe and North America.

About UN PRI

The United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) Initiative is an international network of investors working together to put the six principles for responsible investment into practice. Its goal is to understand the implications of ESG issues for investors and support signatories to incorporate these issues into their investment decision making and ownership practices. In implementing the principles, signatories contribute to the development of a more sustainable global financial system. There are currently more than 3000 signatories to the PRI who collectively manage in excess of US$90 trillion in assets.

The six Principles of the UN PRI to which hep commits, state:

  1. We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.
  2. We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices.
  3. We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest.
  4. We will promote acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry.
  5. We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles.
  6. We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles
