Climate ticket from TSG Hoffenheim and hep solar: Proceeds go to ForTomorrow

Güglingen, 2 October 2024 – The Baden-Württemberg-based solar specialist hep solar is once again supporting its partner club TSG Hoffenheim this year in promoting sustainable projects for climate and environmental protection. From this season, football enthusiasts will be able to purchase the climate ticket from hep solar and TSG Hoffenheim, the proceeds of which will be donated to ForTomorrow.

The organization ForTomorrow buys emission rights from the European CO₂ trading system and sets them aside. TSG Hoffenheim football fans can purchase the climate ticket for one euro in addition to their regular ticket – and thus make an important contribution to climate protection.

ForTomorrow buys emission rights

ForTomorrow specialises in buying up emission rights and thus withdrawing them from the European CO₂ trading system. Emissions trading is a market-based instrument designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It regulates the amount of CO₂ that industry in the EU is allowed to emit. Emission-intensive industrial and energy companies must buy emission rights, also known as certificates, from the state, which entitle them to emit a fixed amount of CO₂. For every ton of CO₂ that a company wants to emit, an emission right is needed. The total number of available allowances is determined by the European Commission and reduced at regular intervals in order to continuously reduce overall emissions.

ForTomorrow buys emission rights from industry, further reducing the total amount of certificates available for CO₂ emissions. This achieves an immediate reduction in CO₂ emissions, as the purchased emission rights can no longer be used to offset CO₂ emissions. The approach also creates incentives for companies participating in European emissions trading to increase their efforts to avoid CO₂ emissions, as fewer emission rights are available.
