Hawaii, October 06, 2022 – The top athlete of the hep Sports Team Laura Philipp reached the fourth place at the Ironman World Championship Hawaii. After two years of Ironman break, the women’s race started yesterday. Despite the continuing hot and humid weather, everyone was excited and looking forward to the starting gun. Already in the run-up Laura Philipp explained that the competition is big, and it could be a close race.
Good start for Philipp
After a terrific start, the top athlete felt well positioned in her bike group. Despite a lot of lead work, Laura Philipp got the blue card without warning. “The rules are very important to me and especially as an athlete it is important that the rules are followed,” Philipp explained after the race. At about kilometer 50, the Heidelberg native had to take a 5-minute break. In the meantime, the leading group continued and the momentum that had been painstakingly built up was lost a little. Nevertheless, she did not give up and tried to catch up with the leaders again. At the end of the race, they were able to fight their way up to fourth place, narrowly missing out on the podium.

The race weekend in Hawaii has started grandiosely with the women’s competition and is already moving on to the next highlight tomorrow. Four more athletes of the hep Sports Team will try to reach a place on the podium tomorrow. No fewer than four other teammates will be fighting for a podium finish in the men’s race. 2021 Ironman 70.3 world champion Gustav Iden, winner of the 2021 Ironman South Africa 2021, Maurice Clavel, and the bronze medal winner of the 70.3 World Championship, Daniel Bækkegård, are looking forward to the competition. Multiple Ironman world champion Sebastian Kienle is expected to start this year’s event in Hawaii for the last time.
